On the back: Monomoy Point Lighthouse was established in 1832, where a fishing village had once stood during 1711. Monomoy light was discontinued after 1923, but the lightkeeper's Cape Cod style house, the tower and generator house stand as a reminder of the community that once existed on this island.
Today, it is a National Wilderness area where visitors can "rough it".
