A formal garden was added behind the house that year and has been a place of beauty and tranquility for Salem citizens to enjoy through all seasons.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"rteindent1\"\u003eRopes Mansion was built in the late 1720s was owned by only two families (Samuel Barnard and three generations of the Ropes family) before becoming a public building.
