Independence Hall, a world heritage site, was built between 1732-1756 to serve as the State House for the provincial government of Pennsylvania. By 1776, leaders of the dissatisfied colonists met in the Hall's Assembly Room to discuss declaring their independence from Great Britain. After much debate they adopted and signed the Declaration of Independence whose words continue to inspire.
