A familiar Paris landmark, the Arc de Triomphe straddles a hectic traffic circle where twelve avenues converge, including the famous Avenue des Champs Élysées. The arch was completed in 1836 and commemorates the victories of Napoleon Bonaparte. In 1920, the arch also became the site for the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, where an eternal flame burns.
