Have you ever fought prairie fires?

Wolves?

Been visited by the Osage Native Americans?

Or been eaten alive by mosquitoes?  (Well maybe not eaten alive, but it sometimes feels like it!)

This is the life that Laura lived on the Osage Diminished Reserve of Kansas.

You can see how she lived at the Little House on the Prairie Museum in Kansas.

Let's pack our bags and visit this great museum! Why not bring Casper along too!

Ingalls' Home

Osage Diminished Reserve, Kansas

1869-1870

The Ingalls family moved to Kansas with the promise of land from the 1862 Homestead Act. Pa, Ma, Mary, Laura, and Jack (their dog) arriving with just a wagon of supplies to build a life on untouched land.

This is the home where their beloved daughter Carrie was born, they fought a prairie fire, were visited by the Osage Native Americans, wolves roamed free, and with mosquitos galore. Their determination to have land in Kansas was finally met with the devastating news that they built a new life on the wrong land and were required to leave.

In 2018, Pa Ingalls home was rebuilt using 100 logs.  The cabin is 13 by 17 feet, with 6-foot-high walls and the peak at 9 feet. How would you fair if you faced all the obstacles the Ingalls family did?
