As the most visited National Park in 2025, 11.53 million people visited the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

- In 1926 the United States wanted to create a National Park in the Eastern United States but had minimal funds to do so. With the financial support of John D. Rockefeller, Jr. and private citizens of Tennessee and North Carolina small parcels were gathered one piece at a time to create today's 522,419 acres of parkland.
