During the six years that Edgar Allan Poe lived in Philadelphia at 532 N. 7th Street (1838-1844), he struggled with bad luck, personal demons, and his wife's tuberculosis. Even so, these may have been his happiest and most productive years. He wrote A Tale of the Ragged Mountains and The Balloon Hoax while living here. Check the park website before deciding to visit, as they are open for limited hours.
