Few houses in America have witnessed as many important events and hosted as many famous people, like Presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Abraham Lincoln, as Chatham.

Consruction of this home was completed in 1771 by William Fitzhugh and named after the 1st Earl of Chatham, William Pitt.

In 1862, from the grounds of the house, Union artillery shelled the town during the Battle of Fredericksburg. For several days army surgeons operated tirelessly on hundreds of soldiers inside the house, assisted by volunteers including poet Walt Whitman and Clara Barton.

Today Chatham is part of Fredericksburg & Spotsylvania National Military Park.

We handcraft this Chatham replica in 3/4" thick wood in our small Ohio workshop.

Look for Casper, our black cat mascot, waiting at the front door to welcome you in for a tour.
