Constructed in 1716 by the colony of Massachusetts, the Boston Light directed vessels carrying merchants' goods safely into port.
During the Siege of Boston (1775-1776), in July, 1775, this lighthouse was fought over and raided by the colonials and the British.
As the oldest true lighthouse in North America, it has been host to more keepers than the United States has had presidents.
