The Edmund Fitzgerald Freighter and 29 crew members were famously honored by the 1976 Gordon Lightfoot ballad. The wreck happened on November 10, 1975, in a severe Lake Superior storm when massive waves washed over the deck.
To this day, an annual memorial service is held every November at noon by the Great Lakes Maritime Academy, where a bell is rung 29 times to honor the men lost on the Edmund Fitzgerald, plus 1 time for all lives lost at sea, and 1 time to honor Gordon Lightfoot.
This wooden replica brings that annual tradition into your home, a quiet way to acknowledge the people and the story that are part of Great Lakes history. Place it in your home or office where it can spark conversations.
We handcraft this memory in 3/4" thick wood in our Ohio workshop. Casper, our black cat mascot, can be spotted on the bow of the ship.
